Report

Held from the 26th to the 27th of March 2005, this International Tournament was the thrid Grand Prix of the year, after Moscow and Kiev.

8 groups were present: Bulgaria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Switzerland and Russia.
For the individual competition, Irina Tchachina, Anna Bessonova, Natalia Godunko or Vera Sessina were the main gymnasts to compete.

On Saturday, Russia won the all-around qualification, in front of Bulgaria and France. Irina Tchachina (RUS) was the most successful gymnast, before Olga Kapranova (RUS) and Natalia Godunko (UKR).

For the apparatus finals, only the 8 best gymnasts / countries per apparatus were able to compete. Irina Tchachina won 3 finals on 4, and Bulgaria won all the finals for groups.

As a general impression, we could say that Irina Tchachina was not as brilliand as she was last year. She seems tired, because of her foot injury perhaps. She does not smile anymore. Her teammates Vera Sessina and Olga Kapranova did well, but they do not have the same touch with the fans that Ukrainians Anna Bessonova and Natalia Godunko have. Both of them did a great competition, ponctuated by some little mistakes (most of them made by Bessonova). Godunko was brilliant with her ribbon: speedness, technicity and joy were the main keys of her routine whi allowed her to win the ribbon final.

Inna Zhukova (BLR) did also a great job, principally with her ball, which is so lovely and risky (at the image of her end catch). Her young teammate Liubov Charkaskyna competed out of competition.

Simona Peycheva and Elyzabeth Paisieva presented new routines under the Bulgarian style. Many emotion from Paisieva and nice originalities. Always risky and speedy routines for Peycheva, which were not, as for me, as excellent as last year.
Stela Sultanova, a new Bulgarian, showed nice routines full of original movements and character: she was very appreciated by the public!

Delphine Ledoux, one of the 5 French gymnasts present in Thiais, was impressive, especially with ribbon, where she showed her great ability in doing pivots. Nathalie Fauquette was the second best French, in front of Aurélie Lacour (who came back from an injury), Ketty Martel and Julie Gournay (disastrous competition).

Bulgarian group has an amazing clubs and hoops routine: many throws and risky catches. Russian did a great job, even if we can reproach them not as originalities as Bulgaria showed. France was a good surprise: new gymnasts and new routines (a Spanish ribbons one and a speedy hoops and clubs'). Interesting work from Switzerland, especially with hoops and clubs, as well as China.
Canada was not good during this competition: many mistakes and not much originalities, we can't say they have nice routines.
