France
In France, Rhythmic Gymnastic is not a major sport, with only
22.275 gymnasts practicing it. The French Federation of Gymnastics
federates the discipline.
Gymnasts have to subscribe in a club and then train for competitions,
according to their levels. Their coaches decide then in which
kind of competition they will evolve. There are three majors levels
in France:
> Criterium level
> Federal level
> National level

Criterium levels
Mostly for debutant gymnasts. It is divided in different competitions:
DC1, DC2, DC3, DC4 and Criterium individual competitions.
DC1 is made of 3 or 4 gymnasts, who have to present different
exercises alone. They learn one or two routine(s) with a different
apparatus. Then, they present these routines to judges, who give
them a mark. After all the exercises, their marks are added and
give a total mark. The best group is the one who gets the higher
mark.
DC2 is the same thing as DC1, except the fact that the gymnasts
have to present a duo during the competition.
DC3 is a group of 4 to 6 gymnasts who learn a routine and present
it. No composition is done, but because of the fact that the number
of gymnasts changes, relation has to be found in this routine
as well as the way to exchange apparatuses.
DC4 is a perfect artistic routine, on the base of 6 to 10 gymnasts.
The music is free and the coach has to create a history, during
2 minutes and 30 seconds. It is a real composition.
Criterium individual is for individual gymnasts. They only have
the right to make A difficulties (if not, they have a deduction
on their marks). They choose one apparatus and create a routine
of their choices.
Federal levels
Quite hard levels for the gymnasts who do not train daily. It is
the transition between debutant and sport-study (and so, high-level).
In this level, competitions are first done individually (first part
of the season), and then, during the end of the season, by group
(DF1, DF2 or DF3).
DF1 is a group of five gymnasts, plus one or two substitute gymnasts.
They have to present to the judges one routine of 2 minutes 30 seconds.
During this routine, gymnasts can do A, B or C difficulties.
DF2 is the same as DF1, except that there are only two gymnasts
on the carpet. The relations and exchanges are so not the same!
DF3 is composed of four gymnasts plus one or two substitute gymnasts.
They have a Criterium level and can only make A difficulties.
National level
The access to international competitions… Before getting to this
level, gymnasts get in the National B level, and if they have a
good potential, they can access to the National A level.
National B: for the gymnasts who train daily, at high level. It
is also a tremplin to the very high-level and international career.
They present three routines, with A, B, C or D difficulties.
National A: the highest level in France. The best of the national
A can compete internationally.
